United Kingdom and Ireland, and have recently decided to expand JJB’s produce

Services offered and functions performed;

Regular availability of products; the most important
service of a retailer to consumers is to maintain regular availability of
various products produced by different manufacturers. This enables the buyers
to choose products according to their tastes from a wide variety and buy them
when needed.

New products information; by arranging for effective display of products and through their
personal selling efforts, retailers provide important information about the
latest arrivals to the consumers.

Convenience in buying; retailers generally buy products in large quantities and sell these in
small quantities, according to the requirements of the customers. They are also
open for long hours, which allow consumers to visit when they finish work,
school etc.

Wide selection; Retailers generally keep stock of a variety of products of different
manufacturers , this enables the consumers to make their choice out of the
variety of products.

After sales services; retailers provide after-sales in the form of home deliveries, supply
of spare parts and attending to customers.

Provide credit facilities; the retailers sometimes provide credit facilities to regular
buyers, This allows them to increase their buying consumption and increase
standard of living by reducing costs of clothing, footwear and equipment.

Impact on the local community;

Sport retailers are open long hours, this increases the
amount of time for local residents to get to the shops after working hours,
school etc. This brings in a larger amount of money which will be profit and
that will possibly be spent on further information about the shops, and open
further branches around the city or in cities which may not have a shop close
to home.

Sport Spectating

Definition/purpose
Sports spectating is when people buy tickets to watch a specific sport such as;
Football, Rugby, Tennis etc. There are many ways that sport attracts large
quantities of spectators either on the television or people travelling to the
stadiums to watch, this will bring money in either way, as channels such as
Sky Sports and ESPN bring in members and charge them to watch.

Money made from tickets of TV will bring in large amounts
of money for individual sportsmen or clubs which will then go on to improve the
sport to improve the spectators satisfaction.

Scale/Size
Sports all over the world attract spectators,
for example; The Olympics attracts billions of viewers across the World as this
is the largest event for every country every 4 years, the Beijing Olympics had
attracted 3.6 billion viewers and is expected to rise for the 2012 London
Olympics.

Football attract an estimate of 600 million viewers each
weekend the sport is played and a further 100-150m when champions league
football is played, the Barclays Premier Leagues income per season tips the
scales at £2.850b for television rights.

Target Groups

The groups which are mainly targeted at
are people who enjoy watching sport, which provides regular footage of sport
such as; premier league matches, international friendlies/competitive games
etc.

People who don't watch sport often can also be a
spectator when it comes to big events like the World Cup (Football, rugby) or
the Ashes when England play Australia, it is said that events like this bring
the countries together.

Services offered and functions performed

When travelling to watch a team play a sport, programmes,
food and drink are provided to the spectators to increase their satisfaction
whilst watching the sport they enjoy.

 There are other services provided whilst watching sport
such as; television, when people what from the TV, the commentators take a look
into the teams about how they have played, the line up and other aspects to
determine the score, this is basically an electronic programme.

Impact on local community

Sports spectators pay to get into games and buy food and
drink during their stay, so this increases the income for the club which is
being watched, the more the clubs make, the more money is invested into the
local communities to help aid sport development or raise awareness about how
important sport is.

 A great example of this is, Chelsea football club invest
money into local youth centres and teams which will help children stay away
from getting involved with bad influences and wrong doing.

 By providing local centres, this will help kids get
involved with sport and become fit and healthy and possibly find a skill which
will enable them to get a career, whether that can be professional
sportsmen/women, or coaches etc.

Facility Provision
Definition/purpose;
This is where Councils introduce facilities for sport such as a Ball court, basketball hoops for children in an area to go and play, this helps encourage kids to start to play sports and keep
fit and healthy. These facilities will be added to prevent kids from playing by
houses and cars which could get kids into trouble or get hurt.

Facilities like this (Ball court, basketball courts and
youth centres have been added to the area I live in, Twerton. These were added
to keep some people around the area out of trouble, there is also a park which
I live less than a minute away which provides a large grass area to play
football, Rugby or somewhere to just run around, there is a ball court and a
BMX track and then for the younger children and their parents, there is a
little park consisting of swings, slides, seesaws etc.

Scale/size;
 This idea has spread throughout the country where many public, private areas have accepted to have courts and parks built, schools also have areas provided such as; Culverhay School in bath were provided with a ball court which was provided by the lottery fund for schools,
this added to the sports facilities, making the sports centre one of the best
in Bath and had then become a branch for Aquaterra (a health and fitness
centre)

Target groups;
These facilities were introduced to keep all people excited in sport fit and healthy, and even for those who would like to get into sport to either keep out of trouble or to gain fitness.
 Even adults who would like to play some sport with their children can play within the facilities provided, before areas like this are
set up, letters are sent around to ask if children will be interested about the
facilities and use them, which will give a good indication to the council
whether they will build on this idea.

Services offered and functions performed;
Youth centres are provided to guide children away from trouble and can help them get jobs for
the future which will determine them to work hard in school, also, youth workers
walk around and talk to the younger generations and talk to them to build trust
and provide advice on what to do.

Facilities are provided to encourage people into sport
and become fit and healthy.

Impact on the local community;
Parents in the local area are sent letters asking whether a ball court or a park is needed within the area as this will bring the community together and decide whether its needed,
this could build a closer relationship between the people and the council to
work together in the future. The children on the other hand will be able to
play sport with others they may not have met before and make more friends which
will encourage them to get into sport and become fit and healthy, which will
help them through the future.

Sports coaching
Definition/purpose;
A coach is someone who teaches peoplethe basic and fundamental skills to perform to a standard level, higher levelled coaches teach more advanced skills to perform at an elite standard such as; the Barclays Premier League and Cricket.

Scale/size;
Throughout the UK, an estimated 3% are full time coaches, these being coaches
for elite teams such as Cricket clubs, the rest are volunteers. There are more
volunteers in rural areas than urban areas and then there are more male coaches
than that of female coaches.
In Cricket, level 3 coaches are required to teach elite
athletes the advanced skills in the sport to deal with the demands of the
sport, these Professional Cricket coaches are full time, making up some of the
3% of full time coaches in England.

Target Group;
The target group for Sports coaches are people who wish to boost their skills and other aspects of fitness which match the criteria of the specific sport, These groups and consist of youth teams, semi professional sport teams and elite athletes.
Professional Coaches also go to schools to help aid development for pupils within that school, they also try to get more people into sport, they may even give advice for some pupils to further their development into youth teams.
For example; Aston Villa Youth team, are trained by Kevin MacDonald, he has coached the first team for a few months at a time between managers.
The players he coaches are coming up through the ranks whilst learning advanced skills to help deal with the future demands of Football.

Services offered and functions performed;
When coaches go to schools, they coach sessions to the children they are provided with, they will then provide activities which will work specifically to the sport which is being presented.
Impact on local community;
Professional coaches go to schools, mostly Junior schools for kids between 5/6 and 11 years old, this gives children the chance to start playing sport when they are younger and then they can learn new skills to possibly get a career out of it.
Sport centres aroung the City/village can also attract professional sportsmen/women to provide information on how to train and interest people to become fit and healthy and pass on information to others.

Professional Sport
Definition/purpose;
In sports, a professional is someone who receives
monetary compensation for participating. The opposite is an amateur, meaning a
person who does not receive monetary compensation.

For example, sportsmen and women are paid every week to
play the s[port they are signed up to do, even if they are injured they are
paid (unless they have signed a pay to play contract).

Scale/size; professional sport is huge all over the
world, there are leagues in every country for most sports, the main ones being
the Barclay's Premier League for Football and Premier League Rugby. These
attracts some of the best players around the world which provides the greatest
entertainment resulting in people wanting to travel to watch the matches shown.

Professional sportsmen and women earn different salaries,
for example; Rugby players have a capped wage meaning that they will not earn
anywhere near what professional footballers earn, this is also the same for women
sport, sportswomen are paid far less than sportsmen unless you look at sports
like Tennis, where equality in pay has been introduced (at Wimbledon and soon
to be tournaments all over the world). This will encourage females to take up
the sport Tennis and make a good living for themselves.

Out of these three sports the salaries are very
different, some ranging from millions earned per year to £60,000 a year, these
being Footballers (millions per year for a PL player), rugby players (£60,000
per year for a PL player) and Cricket players who play for their countries earn
around £200,000 - £400-000 per year.

Can payment take on other forms other than financial?
Sportsmen/Women are paid for the entertainment they provide, entertainment
attracts viewers from travel or from people watching on the television and
viewers pay money for these services.

What are they actually paid for?
In Wimbledon, 50/50 pay to watch men's matches and women's
matches, meaning that they deserve the equal amount of pay due to them
attracting the same crowds, 50/50 pay to watch men's matches and women's
matches, meaning that they deserve the equal amount of pay due to them
attracting the same amount of spectators.

Are there other ways to earn money as a professional
other than playing?

Many professional athlete sign deals with companies to help
advertise their product and then they are given money for doing so.

Athletes like Usain Bolt have a huge fan base, which
follow him frequently in races, training, interviews etc. This will help
promote the products that his sponsor has produced, this being 'Puma'. this
deal is worth an estimate of £21m over four years.

Professional Sportsman
Samuel Eto'oThe Cameroonian
Samuel Eto'o Fils is a professional Football player who plays for the Russian
club Anzhi Makhackala who is owned by a Russian Billionaire Suleyman Kerimov.

Eto'o had become a Professional sportsman in 1997 when
he joined and signed and signed a contract with Real Madrid, he then moved to
Majorca on loan and then signed for them in the summer 2000 for the 2000/2001
season.

He then moved on after 4 years to play for the bigger
teams in the World these being Barcelona and Internationale, he had won many
trophies in his career 3 being Champions League cups, 2 with Barcelona and 1 with
Internationale, he is also the first player to win the trophy twice in consecutive
seasons, he is currently the worlds highest paid player, earning
in the excess of £350,000 a week, totaling £20.5m a year.

Do they have any sponsorship deals or any other ways in
which they earn from their status as a professional?

Eto'o is currently sponsored by Puma which brings him a further income of £5m.
Samuel Eto'o is currently 30 years old and has not stated
whether he will retire from football internationally or professionally at his
club, with current earnings at £350,000 a week, i doubt he will end up working
in a different job.

Sport Tourism
Definition/purpose;
 this refers to travel, which involves
either viewing or participating in sporting events around the World.

A great example of this is the Olympics which comes
around every 4 years and attracts huge amounts of people travelling the world
from all countries either in the competition or even people from countries who
are not participating in the Olympics. The Beijing Olympics had been watched by
3.4 billion people in the World, around 50% of the worlds population.

Scale/size;
Sport tourism is regarded as the fastest
growing sector in the Global travel industry, the income received from all
sport related travel tips the scales at £440.254b ($660b) a year.

The main attractions in the world for sport travellers
are the Olympics and the FIFA (Federation International Football Association)
World Cup and the Formula 1 Grand Prix season which attracts hundreds of millions,
possibly even billions of viewers per year.

Why is Sports Tourism encouraged;
Countries who hos?
events receive different economic effects in Short term and long term periods,.

Short term benefits -  Fresh cash flows from travelling to
the host country and paying for food, drink accommodation and so on, athletes
and officials also come and spend money throughout the game. Money from
Television deals will also boost the funds for the countries, sponsors of the
event will need to buy commodities and provide cash to advertise their firms.
It is believed that the hosts of the Olympics attract tourism before the games
even start and weeks to months after the events, the total profit from the
games averages about £600m.

Long term benefits - Host countries are allowed to keep and
use the stadiums which have been built, this can promote sport within that
specific country and provides facilities to educate and train younger
generations, Universities are also improved as athletes will be training there
before the Olympics officially start which will attract tourists to come and
pay to view them training.

The Olympics will also boost tourism over decades after the games and this will develope countries further, other aspects of the country will also be improved, such as;
Hotels, restaurants, Pubs and Airports etc.

Are there any sports tourism companies that offer tourist
packages?

People who want to travel and watch sports will have to pay for;
travel, tickets, accommodation (if staying the night), food and drink, clubs
provide a service which organises this into a package to make it easier for the
person to get to the games, this may cost more but it will prevent long waits
for trains and accommodation and so on.

Are there any companies that offer youth teams or schools the opportunity take part in sports tourism trips or tours?
The Olympic committee allow schools to have some free tickets to travel and visit the
Olympic venues before the game starts, this allows students to view the venues
for all sports and this may encourage them to buy tickets for the heats or
finals, and it may also get people to join in with sports to get them fitter or
possibly train to be an elite athlete and possibly play in the Olympics
sometimes.

Impact on the local community?
Sports tourism isn't as big as the tourism that many
other cities like; London, Manchester and Bristol get, but Bath attracts the
majority of sport travellers in Bath Rugby other than that of Bath City FC.

This increase the income made in shops around town and
near Twerton park as tourists will be paying to buy food and drink and maybe
souvenirs from their journey.

Sports medicine
Definition/purpose;
Sports medicine is an area of health
and special services that apply medical and scientific knowledge to prevent,
recognize, manage, and rehabilitate injuries related to sport, exercise, or
recreational activity.
There are many areas which cover a wide range of injuries
such as; muscles, bones and joints. These kind of injuries can be cured/helped
by professional injury specialists like Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and
podiatrists.
Specific Medicine companies I have researched is Sports
Medicine Partners, this is a private firm that consist of physiotherapists,
Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Sports massage and Personal training etc.
Scale/size;
The starting salary for physiotherepists for the NHS will be within the band 5 category, whihc enables the Physio to have a yearly income of £21,176 - £27,534, £25,472 - £34, 189 for specialist Physiotherapists(band 6), £30,460 - £40,157 for advanced physiotherapists (band 7).
Private Physiotherapists can earn over £100,000 as they earn money directly and do not have a set salary per week, month or year.
Target Group;
UK sports medicine companies target athletes in
professional sport and people who enjoy playing sport in general, approximately
750,000 people a year visit for injury cures and they can be set rehabilitation
Definition/purpose;
Sports betting is the activity of predicting sports results and placing wager on the outcome. This is what people do to try and increase their takings per week or month depending how much they bet, people can bet on sports like Football, Rugby, Tennis, Olympics etc.
Bet365 is a massive betting company as they allow all people to make bets of all kinds on a variety of sports such as; Football, rugby, horse racing etc.
 They also allow people who use credit cards to make bets mid game, like, who will score next, who will have most shots on target. peter Coates the owner had sold on shares for £40m to his Daughter and son.
Scale/size - How much money is made by the gambling companies?

Sports gambling had increased its profits and value over a couple of decades, In 2008, $2.8b was made from sports gambling alone and this had then increased to $5b by the end of 2009.
There are over 30 million online users for Sports gambling alone.
Bet365 had made £33.5 profits in 2008, £66.6m in 2009, the current value of Bet365 is £400m.
For example, bet365 have over 4 million users
Target groups – the stereotypical audience for sports
gambling is the older generation of people as they may not work but receive
pension.

Services offered and functions performed;
Sports gambling attracts millions of betters a year due to all the bets enabled to bet
on, there is Horse racing winners, football, Rugby teams to bet on for a win.

What about the impact of online betting?
Gambling shops have introduced online betting as some people may not like going to betting shops as people see them as possible wasters or a nasty person, as this is the stereotypical crowd that surface for betting, so the comfortability of doing it in your own home without others knowing is easier.
Bet365 offers in play betting, as seen on the advert they have made, (the advertisement during halftime in most football matches on Sky sports), this offers people who are betting online the chance to analyse a game and think about who is playing the best and who could score next, this gives people more chance of winning money back from bets.
Impact on the local community? – How does sport related gambling affect the City of Bath?
I believe it only has a small impact on the local community as the companies do not invest money into development in the village/city, but they do provide enjoyment to sdome people around the area, as people can bet a little part of their income in the chance to make their wallet thicker.

Sports broadcasting
Definition/purpose
The broadcasting of sports events is the coverage of
sports as a television program, on radio and other broadcasting media. It
usually involves one or more sports commentators describing the events as they
happen.
For example, Sky Sports pay the Barclays premier League organisation to have the rights of
televising the premier league, and domestic cup matches.

This provides money, which is then dished out to all
clubs within the premier league depending on the positions the teams finish.

Scale/size;
There are many broadcasting companies for Sport, a few are; Sky sports, ITV, BBC etc. These buy rights to show football matches on their channels to bring viewers to their channels, some of these channels are shown all around the world, so this allows the channel to bring in funds for future games and possible expansion of showing other sports on the same channel, Sky sports show multiple different sports such as; Rugby, American Football, car racing etc.
How much money is made by broadcaster and also by the clubs themselves in TV viewing rights?
Channels that wish to show professional sport clubs on match days, including; League games, Domestic cup games and European football.
Sky sports have a total revenue of £5.4b, but total net profit is £878m for the year, with large sums of money like this made from viewers paying to watch sport monthly or pay for view, this allows the matches to be shown all over the world.
Sky sports shows up to 115 live matches a season, more than any other channel in the UK, the money provided by the sports channels is shared out to the clubs in the Premier League by finishing positions in the league, for example; Manchester United won the league, so they get the highest proportion of the money, and then the money then reduces for the lower teams.    Last place still receive £1m even after getting relegated.

Target groups; Sports broadcasting is aimed at poeple who enjoy their sport by watching on Tv, news or listening on the radio, there is many ways to follow sports.With many channels such as Skysports, ESPN, Itv showing matches fro all sports like Football, Rugby, Atheletics, people who enjoy spors will possibly find it hard to resist the attraction to view.

Impact on the local community?
People within the local area of sport, they will be provided with cheaper deals for sport viewing due to the football team agreeing deals with television rights to allow local people to pay less for psport packages.

Sport development and co-ordination Definition/purpose;
Sports Development seeks to promote opportunities
available for people to take part in sports and activities for:

•Fun and Enjoyment
 •Health and well being benefits
 •Playing to their potential and progressing to their chosen level
 •Reducing anti-social behaviour and incidence of crime
 •Competitions and leagues

The governing bodies aim to;
•Increase participation in sport and physical activity
 for all
 •Increase the number of volunteers, coaches and officials with National Governing Body Awards
 •Develop sport and physical activity opportunities in priority areas
 •Provide advice and support to voluntary organisations
 •Promote and encourage active and healthy lifestyles
 •Develope facilities for sport and physical activity use
Scale/size;
There are governing bodies all around the world, They
travels around the leagues in the world which are specific to a certain sport,
e.g. rugby and help raise awareness for Amateur sportsmen/women up to
Professionals.

For example, The
RFU provide information to sports people around the world to ensure they know
about all information needed, the governing bodies consist of many full time
and volunteering staff, some coaches from them coach local youth, community
teams.

Target Group;
The target groups for sport development and co-ordination
will be people who play sport from amateur levels up tom professional to let
them know about what sport should be like, and the reasons these are needed.

The main people the FA target are sports people of all
ages to ensure they know about the latest news on the sport Football and
legislation's in place to ensure the sport can progress for the future.

Football clubs in Spain have updated their training
methods to make players play from a younger age and play on different sized
pitches such as; 5 a-side, 6 a-side and full sized pitches etc. this helps them
improve their passing and shooting while confined to a smaller area to do so
which improves their tactical thinking and play, Spain have been doing this for
at least 15 years, due to the reason Spanish teams and the country have had so
much success over recent years.

Impact on local community;

This helps raise awareness to the people in Bath about latest rules and policies in the Sport and prevents children from playing with sportsmen/women older than them, this is a policy set by the governing body.
Sports England also invest around £158m per year for sports related objectives, such as; Sports Partnerships and local communities.to help.
The money provided through these investments helps build sporting facilities and builds sporting partners within many cities through the country.

    You have provided a comprehensive description of the sports industry and covered every section of each component. To ensure you get a distinction you must make sure all 11 components are completed as currently you have 3 missing. Check the CRL to make sure all are complete and maintain your high standards and excellent use of English.
